14 DAY TRIAL // Jimmy Kimmel was one of the many presenters at the Emmys 2015, which took place at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles and aired live on Fox, but he was the only one to get drunk on “so much power” and eat the envelope with the winner’s name.
As you can see in the 2 videos below, Kimmel decided that it was stupid for producers to place so much trust in him by handing him the name with the winner. To prove a point, he cut out the name of the winner from the envelope and ate it.
He was presenting the Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy series, where nominees were Anthony Anderson (“Black-ish”), Louis C.K. (“Louie”), Don Cheadle (“House of Lies”), Matt LeBlanc (“Episodes”), Will Forte (“Last Man on Earth”), William H. Macy (“Shameless”) and Jeffrey Tambor (“Transparent”).
This way, he told the roaring crowd, he could call out whatever name he came up with as the winner, and no one would be the wiser for it because no one else but him would know.
“If the card says Louis C.K. and I say the Emmy goes to Matt LeBlanc, what are they going to do, stop the show? Are Ernst & Young going to hop on stage and wrestle the Emmy away from Joey Tribbiani? I don’t think so,” he said.
The Emmy went to Tambor, who was at his first win but not the first nomination. After the hilarious segment, later on during the show, LeBlanc caught up with Kimmel and not-so-graciously let him know what he thought of his joke.
You can see Kimmel’s tweet below as well. Obviously, LeBlanc thought the joke was funny, which was also obvious from his reaction during the live broadcast. It was all in good fun, even his giving Kimmel the finger.
