The Emmy Awards 2015, held on Sunday night at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles and broadcast live on Fox, could have become the first Emmys in history to have a rock band perform live on stage. Members of the Television Academy had gotten the Foo Fighters booked for the night, but the gig fell through, it has emerged.

And frontman Dave Grohl is furious about it, as you can see in the video below. He wouldn’t say why the performance didn’t happen, but a rep for the band lays all the blame at Fox’s door.

According to TMZ, Fox wanted the Foo Fighters to do a medley: half a song from their HBO documentary “Sonic Highways” and half of “Learn to Fly.” The band wanted to do just one full song, from the HBO show, because it was an Emmy-winner itself and so their choice made more sense.

Fox wouldn’t budge even though the band had the full support of the Academy, and the Foo Fighters refused to change their plans as well.

“FOX then refused to allow the band to play a full song from the Emmy-winning Sonic Highways,” a Foo Fighters rep tells TMZ. They were left with no other choice but to bail out of the gig, much to their disappointment.

The good news is that they’re willing to put it all behind them, if Fox plays its cards right the next time.
