The next major update for elementary OS is just around the corner, so today the parent company published a blog post to discuss the improvements that users are projected to get with this new release.

elementary OS 5.1.3 comes with notable tweaks for Code and Files, with the latter receiving a bunch of fixes, including for freezes and crashes reported in the latest builds.

As far as the desktop is concerned, the most notable change is the Gala update that includes keyboard shortcuts in the secondary click context menu for title and header bars. In case you’re wondering why these are useful, it’s because you can now perform certain tasks, like moving to the left or right workspace, minimizing and moving the window with keyboard shortcuts.

“This is a part of our ongoing Keyboard Shortcut Discoverability project which aims to make keyboard usage more contextually-learnable in elementary OS,” Cassidy James Blaede, Co-founder & CXO of elementary, says.

ISO download links to be announced soon

System settings are also getting goodies as part of this update, including a series of changes in the Universal Access page to remove settings duplicates that were also available elsewhere. elementary says this change is part of the so-called Curb Cuts effort to improve the experience with accessibility features.

“For example, dwell clicking is now in the Mouse & Touchpad settings, and transparency and text size are now in Desktop settings. If you’re ever unsure where a setting might be, System Settings has great search for individual settings from both the Search entry inside the app and from the Applications Menu,” Blaede notes.

There’s more to discover in this release, and users will be able to install the new version by simply clicking the Update All button in the App Center.

The download links for elementary OS 5.1.3 should go live soon, with new fresh ISOs to be published shortly.
