El Hijo – A Wild West Tale was originally revealed last year and even won the Best Indie Game award at Gamescom 2019. Developed by Honig Studios and HandyGames, El Hijo evolved quite a lot since then, as both studios have been busy polishing, adding, upgrading, and redesigning core elements of the game.

That being said, it looks like the game is almost ready for primetime, as developers have decided that it's time to give players a taste of what's to come. A new gameplay trailer released this week shows the art of the game, as well as some features and mechanics that we'll have to master.

According to developers, El Hijo - A Wild West Tale will feature 30 unique levels, several toys to distract and outsmart opponents, and a multitude of playfully tricky environmental puzzles. El Hijo plays like a stealth games set in a western universe.

El Hijo tells the story of a curious boy looking for his mother. The journey starts when she and her son are attacked by bandits who raze their farm to the ground. The mother decides to leave his child at a secluded monastery for protection.

However, the young boy believes that the monastic life isn't for him and tries to escape the monastery. Since the game's main character is a boy, El Hijo is a non-violent stealth game where violence has been replaced with the mischievous, playfulness of a young child.

El Hijo has a playful arsenal of tactical toys at his disposal, which he can use to bypass and distract diverse desperadoes. At the core of the game is the so-called “shadowplay” mechanic, as El Hijo will often have to hide in the shadows.

Unfortunately, El Hijo – A Wild West Tale doesn't have a release date yet, but those who find it interesting can already wishlist the game on Steam.
