Hegemony: Philip of Macedon was one of the small but interesting real-time strategy titles of 2010 and managed to be a finalist in the PAX 2010 video game competition and now the development team at Longbow Games has announced that it has released Hegemony Gold: Wars of Ancient Greece, a game which uses the foundation of Philip of Macedon to create a better experience.

The new game delivers two new campaigns that players can go through and adds an open play mode which allows gamers to take control of any of the 26 playable factions set in the world of Ancient Greece and attempt to establish domination over all others.

Gameplay improvements include a new diplomacy system, better tactical options for armies and an updated supply system.

Those who have already bought Hegemony: Philip of Macedon can get the updated version for just 9.99 dollars and new players can get the whole package for 29.99.

Jim McNally, who is the president and the lead designer of Longbow Games, has stated, “After spending the last year building a community and talking to fans about what they liked best in the first Hegemony, we're really excited to show off all that we've added for Hegemony Gold.”

He explained, “Not only do the new features significantly expand the range and depth of the tactics in Hegemony but the new campaigns and sandbox mode exponentially increase the amount of gameplay available.”

I played a bit of Hegemony: Philip of Macedon when the video game was launched last year and found a serious strategy experience that offered a lot of options and a lot of historical accuracy.

The problem was that the game quickly became a bit too much to handle for me as the player and the enemy nations overwhelmed me through numbers, with no tactics working against tough assaults on multiple fronts.
