The publisher promised to continue supporting the game

Electronic Arts finally caught up with the gaming community and admitted that Anthem didn’t rise to expectations.

It seems that the gaming industry needs a sacrifice every year. From the looks of it, there is at least one major flop, and the latest one is Anthem, without any shadow of a doubt. The game had very few working in its favor, and EA’s and Bioware’s fumbling didn’t help.

At its core, Anthem is not a bad game, as we found out in our review, but it suffered from a number of problems, some of which can’t be fixed immediately. While connection and server issues can be addressed by patches, the lack of relevant content after end-game and several balancing problems are much more profound.

It’s good that EA is aware

Electronic Arts recently posted their recent financial results, and it looks they know that Anthem was botched, right from the start. The company basically blamed their lack of knowledge in the PvE genre, but that reason could fly with a young company, not one that’s been around forever.

“We are similarly committed to the live service for Anthem, and delivering for our community in this new IP over the long-term. The launch of Anthem in Q4 did not meet our expectations. However, we believe in the team at BioWare, and we also believe in what they set out to achieve with this game – building a new IP and melding genres to reach a new audience,” said Andrew Wilson, EA’s CEO.

Electronic Art’s statement is not exactly a surprise, and all of the people that quit playing Anthem after the first month could have told them exactly that.

The good news is that EA seems to be invested into Bioware’s game, and they are promising to continue to support the studio and their efforts to rebuild the game and to continue to develop this new IP.

Just how dedicated are they to this goal it remains to be seen.
