Devs need more time to fulfill their vision

2020 has proven to be catastrophic for game the gaming industry, at least the first half of the year. Just about every major game that should have been released in the first six months of 2020 has been delayed. Cyberpunk 2077, Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2, Marvel's Avengers and The Last of Us Part II have been delayed in less than a month.

Today, we have even more bad news for games. Early this week, developer Techland announced that Dying Light 2 will no longer release in Spring 2020. Along with publisher Square Enix, Techland decided to postpone the launch of its most ambitious project indefinitely.

It was a busy year for us as we continued working on our biggest project to date. We know you are awaiting the game eagerly, and we want to deliver exactly what we promised. We were initially aiming for a Spring 2020 release with Dying Light 2, but unfortunately, we need more development time to fulfill our vision.”

Techland didn't offer any release timeframe for Dying Light 2, which suggests that either the game has serious issues or Techland and Square Enix decided to make the game ready for the next-generation of consoles which are launching late this year.

We will have more details to share in the coming month and will get back to you as soon as we have more information. We apologize for this unwelcome news. Our priority is to deliver an experience that lives up to our own high standards and to the expectations of you, our fans.”

The announcement is proof that even having big names on board like Chris Avellone is not a recipe for success. However, we do hope that Dying Light 2 will still happen this year, which would mean that its issues are more related to the technical aspect rather than creative differences.
