The smartphone will be manufactured by another company

HTC Taiwan teased an important announcement for March 20, but since it didn't offer any details on what it is all about, everyone thought a new flagship would be introduced.

We reported to you earlier today that we didn't believe HTC would unveil a new flagship smartphone since the current one just made its debut in some markets.

A new high-end phone with better specs would have definitely cannibalized the U Ultra's sales and made the phone obsolete before it even got released globally.

But that's not going to happen, as HTC plans to launch a mere mid-range smartphone that it's not even made in its factories. Reputable HTC leakster LlabTooFeR claims he has it on good authority that HTC plans to launch a dual-SIM Desire 650 smartphone.

It's no wonder that the company plans to unveil a mid-range handset, otherwise the teaser announcement wouldn't have been published by HTC Taiwan, one of the markets where the Desire 650 is likely to be released.

Now that we had that clarified, let's highlight the rest of the info related to the upcoming dual-SIM HTC Desire 650. First off, it appears that the smartphone will be in fact an ODM device, so it will not be manufactured by HTC, but by another company.

It will still use HTC branding, but it will probably include some customizations from the manufacturer to the Sense 8.3 UI, something that it's not usually found inside HTC smartphones directly made by the Taiwanese company.

The new smartphone (codename A37) will probably feature the same specs as the original HTC Desire 650, except for the fact that it will come with dual-SIM support. Also, the chipset inside will be different from the old HTC Desire 650.

It appears that HTC will include a MediaTek chipset inside the new dual-SIM Desire 650 smartphone, whereas the original model has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor. The rest of the phone's specs are unknown for the moment, but we're likely to learn more next week.
