Microsoft’s October 2 event will bring us lots of news on the Surface front, but it goes without saying that one of the most anticipated moments is the unveiling of the all-new dual-screen Microsoft Surface.

Codenamed Centaurus, this new device is expected to pioneer a new design that should soon be embraced by Microsoft partners at well.

It uses two different screens to support multiple form factors with maximized screen estate, including here laptop and tablet.

At this point, however, it’s not yet clear how the laptop form factor would work given a keyboard is needed, but there’s a chance that one of the screens could double as a keyboard and offer haptic feedback when touching the screen to simulate the press of a key or Type Covers could be attached over the display using a special connector.

Official unveiling on October 2

While there are many specifics that are yet to be discovered, a concept published by the people over at WindowsUnited provide us with a closer look at what could be the foldable Surface, all based on the existing information.

According to this concept, this new device could use two 13- or 14-inch displays and be powered by Windows Lite, Microsoft’s new Windows 10 version that’s specifically supposed to run on this product category and compete against Chrome OS.

Certainly, Microsoft’s dual-screen device will bring so much more to the table, so it’s no wonder so many people are eager to see what Microsoft has been working on for the past two years.

What’s important to know, however, is that while Microsoft might present this device at the October 2 event, sales could only start next year. This is because some work still needs to be done on the new Surface, so this weeks’ demo might be nothing more than a short demo on a prototype, not the final version.
