The Security Release ISO image is now up for grabs

Microsoft rolled out nine security updates this month as part of its Patch Tuesday cycle, and no less than six of them were rated as critical and required immediate attention.

But for IT admins who have to update more than a handful of computers without Internet access, relying on Windows Update is clearly not an option, and that’s why Microsoft rolls out an ISO imagine containing all patches every single month.

The Security Release ISO image for January 2016 is now up for grabs for Windows users and includes updates for all currently supported versions of the operating system. It’s important to note that this ISO image is all about Windows, so no other patches are included in there. Office, Silverlight, Lync, and all the other software solutions that might be vulnerable to attacks need to be patched individually.

All Windows versions got patched

There’s no doubt that this ISO image is a gem for those who need to update several computers in a row, especially because its contents can be placed on a disc or USB drive and then reused for as many times as they want. This should make deployment a lot faster and more secure, especially where no Internet or restricted access is available.

This month, Microsoft patched all Windows versions currently on the market, starting with Vista and ending with Windows 10, so it’s critical for everyone to patch their computers as soon as possible.

Windows 10, in particular, got patched too, but the most critical flaws affected Windows Vista and 7 and were patched with MS16-005. The Remote Code Execution flaws either did not exist in Windows 8 and 10, or were only rated as important.

All in all, it’s good to see Microsoft keep rolling out such packs with Windows Update, so go ahead and download the Security Release ISO image for January 2016 right away.
