Developed by the company with the same name, doubleTwist allows users to browse through their media and play various kinds of video and audio formats. The software works with your phone, MP3 player, camera... you name it! Devices like Sony’s PSP are also supported, while doubleTwist gives you the possibility to publish a video on YouTube, or upload photos to Flickr and Facebook, as well.

New in version 1.0 Beta 13 Build 2301 is the ability to remove friends using the delete key, the first line of text in the changelog reveals. “If you have a device we don't fully support, you can now submit information about your device by clicking a button in the device view,” the developer adds. The release notes also reveal that if doubleTwist crashes, you can now submit a crash report directly to doubleTwist, which is always welcome, and a good sign that doubleTwist is approaching a final 1.0 release.

According to the developers, bug fixes for this version include: - Fixed bug that was causing duplicate friends. - Fixed video sync to PSP Slim edition. - Animated gifs are now displayed animated in photo viewer. - Fixed issue with inaccurate used/total space numbers in device view. - When syncing photos to a device, EXIF metadata is now included. - When trying to send media to an invalid recipient, you'll now get an alert.

“We started doubleTwist because we were disappointed by the quality of software applications offered by the major device manufacturers,” says the company. “Our vision is simple: to create a unifying media platform that connects consumers with all their media and all their devices, regardless of whether they are online or offline.”

“We feel that just like you don't use a different browser for every web site you visit (Firefox to read the NY Times, IE to stream Hulu, Chrome to browse YouTube, etc) you shouldn't have to use iTunes for Apple products, Nokia software for Nokia phones, Sony software for Sony products, etc.”, the people behind doubleTwist continue to outline. “The typical household today has many such devices and there is a need for a simple and powerful software that connects them.”

With this goal in mind, doubleTwist also created its own version of the 1984 ad which, 25 years after the original commercial aired, portrays Steve Jobs as Big Brother. Enticed by doubleTwist’s move? Read all about it here.
