Dota 2, the hugely popular multiplayer experience from Valve, is set to receive its long-awaited patch 6.85 later today, September 24, which includes a suite of big balance changes for the many heroes in the online title. What's more, the studio has confirmed that its first "Major" event is taking place in Frankfurt this November.

Dota 2 is one of the most popular multiplayer games out there, with tens of millions of fans enjoying Valve's online title every day. The last few months have been quite big for the game, as not only did it see the huge The International 2015 eSports competition take place in August, but the actual title has also transitioned to the new Source 2 engine, via the Dota 2 Reborn overhaul.

A big update is out soon and more rewards

In a new announcement on the official blog, Valve confirms its future plans for the game, starting with patch 6.85, which is set to introduce a suite of balance changes for the myriad of heroes in the multiplayer game. The update is set to launch "later this week," according to the studio, so it's likely that it will arrive later today, September 24, all around the world.

At the same time, it's also confirmed that the team is hard at work on the map rendering technology in Dota 2 so that the promised desert map terrain works as intended. The long-awaited digital comic, which is going to accompany the Immortal item for Axe, is set to be longest yet so extra time is also needed for its creation.

The first Major takes place soon in Frankfurt

The studio also revealed that the first Major event for Dota 2 is going to take place in Frankfurt this November. The organization is handled by ESL while Valve delivers the prize pool of $3 million (€2.67 million).

The tournament begins on November 16 and lasts until November 21. Entrance into the Festhalle Messe is open during regular days, but in the final one, attendants will have to acquire a ticket, which goes on sale on September 27.
