Video game developer id Software has offered relatively limited information about the new Doom for a long time, but now the company is ready to deliver details about its various mechanics, with the focus at the moment on the multiplayer modes that will be offered on launch.

The title will provide six core experiences at first, and the studio says that all of them have been designed to be as unique as possible to cover many player expectations and to offer variety to buyers.

Team Deathmatch is the most familiar of the bunch, but in the new Doom, the action is improved by the addition of demons and power-ups for weapons.

Soul Harvest is centered around souls that gamers need to harvest from downed enemies, with a demon run introduced after the first kill to spice up things even further, with two souls offered by each player killed by a monster and five up for grabs for those who manage to take one down.

Freeze Tag replaces killing with immobilization in a block of ice, with teammates able to thaw friends by standing near them.

id Software states, "Players frozen within blocks of ice will slide around if they’re shot or otherwise jostled, leading to all kinds of chaotic possibilities – both planned and unplanned. If you find a frozen ally near a deadly hazard, for example, you can try to knock your teammate into the hazard so he’ll be destroyed; the shattered ally will then respawn."

Doom also features Warpath, Domination and Clan Arena

Warpath is designed for dynamism as players need to chase a capture point that constantly moves around the map, with a demon rune heading in the opposite direction, which forces players to make decisions about strategy every time the level changes.

Domination features three static capture points, and the big twist is a demon run that spawns randomly and allows the team that's behind to get a shot at limiting the advantage of those who control capture points.

Clan Arena is the other classic mode in Doom, with no pick-ups featured on the map and no respawning.

The coming shooter will also offer a SnapMap feature that allows players to put together their own maps and modes and then share them with the community, which should keep the multiplayer engaging in the long term.

Doom will be launched on the PC, the Xbox One, and the PlayStation 4, and will be out on May 13.
