id Software wants to make the new Doom the kind of video game that keeps players interested for a long time and that means the studio has implemented a progression system for the player character that's designed to introduce more options as he gains experience and levels up while also making it easier to customize the avatar's appearance.

A new site update explains that XP is accumulated by simply playing the game in multiplayer and that 50 percent of the progression is linked to getting kills, placing inside the team, win and loss ratio, challenges that get completed and commendations earned after a match.

Doom will introduce the first Echelon at level 50, which resets player level to 1 and offers him a special insignia while still offering the player access to all the equipment that he managed to unlock.

id Software explains that there are more than 300 pieces of armor in the game, 90 primary and secondary colors and 50 patterns that gamers can mix and match for their Marine.

The studio states, "Deck him out in one of five base armor suits (UAC, Demonic, Bounty Hunter, Templar, and Utilitarian), and pick and choose the pieces you want for his helmet, legs, torso, right arm and left arm. If you want a Jaguar torso piece with Scalar legs, an Ocelot left arm and a Wildcat right arm, you can do that. As long as you’ve unlocked the piece, you can customize your marine however you see fit."

Doom also introduces some special Hack modules

For weapons, there are 96 colors and 60 patterns, and there are also extensive customization options to make each character unique during combat.

Hack modules are boosts that players can use to get a small but clear advantage during matches, each coming with three tiers, and characters will be able to equip four of them in the lobby before a game starts.

They include: Supply Timer, offering hints about when pickups respawn; Alarm, uses audio to warn of approaching opponents; Blood Trail, shows location of wounded enemies; Infinite Ammo offers more ammunition for a short period; Power Seeker shows power-ups and power weapons.

Doom will also offer equipment options to gamers, with one slot that can hold a classic grenade, a new Siphon grenade, a Shield Wall and more.

The game will also feature 225 taunts, with four of them loaded on a Marine at one time.

Doom will be launched on the PC, the Xbox One and the PlayStation 4 on May 13.
