Bad news for DOOM fans, as developer id Software and publisher Bethesda have just announced that the release date for DOOM Eternal has been pushed back to 2020. The official DOOM handle posted the announcement and the reasons behind the delay, as well as a few updates concerning other DOOM titles.

Currently, DOOM Eternal is scheduled for release on March 20, 2020, around the same time that Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 will be launched, and just two weeks after Final Fantasy VII Remake, so that it will be a very busy month for us.

According to the message posted on Twitter, iD Software decided to extend the launch date of DOOM Eternal by a few months to make sure that they're delivering the best experience.

We know many fans will be disappointed by this delay, but we are confident that DOOM Eternal will deliver a gaming experience that is worth the wait. To make sure we're delivering the best experience – for DOOM Eternal to live up to our standards of speed and polish – we've made the decision to extend our launch date by a few months to March 20, 2020.”

As far as the updates that we've mentioned above, iD Software announced that DOOM 64, the game that's been recently confirmed for Nintendo Switch, will also be available on Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC.

On top of that, iD Software confirmed that DOOM 64 will be added as a pre-order bonus for DOOM Eternal on all platforms. DOOM 64 will be released on March 20, 2020, on all platforms. Also, DOOM Eternal for Nintendo Switch will be released after the other platforms, and a date will be announced later on.

Last but not least, iD Software revealed that Invasion Mode for DOOM Eternal, which allows you to enter another player's game as a playable demon, will release as a free update shortly after launch.
