Apple watcher claims the company isn’t in a rush to do this

Face ID is Apple’s big bet in terms of biometric authentication, and part of the company’s long-term strategy is to expand it to more devices.

So in addition to the iPhone, Face ID would eventually become available on more Apple products, including the iMac and the MacBook.

But on the other hand, the company isn’t at all in a rush to make this happen. Mark Gurman from Bloomberg says that while Apple is exploring such an approach, and it does want Face ID on the MacBook, the company sees no reason to hurry up.

And before Face ID makes its debut on the MacBook, it will most likely go live either on an external monitor or on the iMac, he says.

Face ID on the iPhone

The facial recognition system launched in 2017 on the iPhone X, and Apple occasionally praised its benefits, explaining that it’s not only super-convenient to use but also very secure.

“Face ID projects more than 30,000 invisible IR dots. The IR image and dot pattern are pushed through neural networks to create a mathematical model of your face and send the data to the secure enclave to confirm a match, while adapting to physical changes in appearance over time,” the company said at that point.

“All saved facial information is protected by the secure enclave to keep data extremely secure, while all of the processing is done on-device and not in the cloud to protect user privacy. Face ID only unlocks iPhone X when customers look at it and is designed to prevent spoofing by photos or masks.”

Of course, all Face ID-related information linked with future products has never been confirmed by Apple, so take everything with a pinch of salt for now.
