The company will instead go for an IPO to raise more money

Reports that made the headlines a few weeks ago revealed that Microsoft was in pole-position to take over Discord, despite other big names, including Amazon and even Epic Games interested in the deal.

People familiar with the matter claimed Microsoft was ready to offer no less than $10 billion, and at one point, it was believed that Discord was even close to say yes and therefore officially become an asset owned by the software giant.

But according to a new report, the talks came to no conclusion and Discord ended up rejecting the $10 billion offer that Microsoft made as part of the talks.

And not only that Discord ended the talks with Microsoft, but it also gave up on plans to find a new owner, so instead, the company will just go public as part of an IPO that will go live soon.

Second failed takeover in less than a year

Discord is the second company that says no to Microsoft, after the software giant was very close to securing the control over the U.S. operations of Internet sensation TikTok.

At that point, TikTok was pressured by U.S. President Donald Trump to find an American owner, and the White House administration favored a Microsoft takeover. The Redmond-based software giant itself confirmed the talks, with people close to the matter saying it was just a matter of time until a deal was completed.

But TikTok’s parent company ByteDance eventually refused the offer, choosing instead to go for a partnership with Oracle without giving up on any of its operations.

Microsoft hasn’t commented on the Discord negotiations and the company hasn’t even confirmed it was interested in a potential takeover, so we should just take all these reports with a healthy pinch of salt.
