Rapper Diddy took a swing at a football coach with a kettlebell after an intense argument that occurred on the UCLA campus. He has been arrested for assault with a deadly weapon, with UCLA staff saying they plan to let the legal procedures run their course.

The altercation started over the way the coach worked with Diddy’s son Justin. The rapper, who is always on the sidelines watching him train, believes the coach is “riding” Justin too hard.

Diddy and Sal Alosi get into intense argument

TMZ says that, as usual, Diddy was on the sidelines watching Justin’s practice. He’s a defensive back on the team, and Sal Alosi is his Strength and Conditioning Coach.

On this particular occasion, Diddy notice Alosi “was riding Justin, screaming intensely at him,” so he followed him back to his office to have a word with him.

Alosi’s team tried to get Diddy to back off and go home, telling him Alosi wasn’t receiving, but he went in either way. According to the initial report, Diddy stormed in the office and found the coach on the phone, growing extremely irritated when he was told to hang on until he was done with the conversation.

Apparently, Diddy picked up one of the kettlebells Alosi had lying around and swung it at him, barely missing him. Obviously, it would have caused serious damage had it connected with its target.

Alosi called campus security, which detained the rapper until police arrived and took him in. He was booked for assault with a deadly weapon, which is a felony.

Diddy claims self-defense

Sources from the rapper’s camp claim that the events leading up to the arrest didn’t play out exactly as described above. It’s true, the two did get into a screaming match and a kettlebell was involved, but Diddy was not the aggressor: he was the victim.

The rapper and business mogul claims self-defense in reaching for the kettlebell, but he says that he didn’t throw it or even consider so doing: he merely used it to protect himself from Alosi’s attack.

The coach allegedly snapped when Diddy told him he would be the one calling the police to report the way he was behaving around his son, if he did not grant him the interview he was asking for.

At the time news of the fight broke, Diddy was being transferred to the LA County Jail. He is yet to issue a statement regarding the incident.
