The development team at Blizzard is currently working on a new major update for Diablo 3, labeled 2.4.0, which is designed to arrive soon and will introduce a major set of changes to the action role-playing game, including new sets of items that games will be able to use to enhance their characters.

The official site announcement explains that gamers will be able to get some equipment that will be expanded from four to six pieces to get some extra power, including the Thorns of the Invoker and The Shadow’s Mantle.

There are also options, like the Armor of Akkhan or Firebird’s Finery, which get enhanced power to make them solid alternatives to current favorites.

Blizzard adds, "for the players who want to seek power beyond 6-piece sets, we’ve got just the thing for you. The revisited Legacy of Nightmares (or the “no set” set, as we like to call it) allows you to make your wildest build dreams a reality, boosting damage and defense for every Ancient item equipped as long as no other set bonuses are equipped."

The studio is also taking out all Season exclusive Legendary items from Diablo 3, although it will be offering a guaranteed six piece set for the player's class if he was involved in the fourth edition of the mode.

Cosmetics will still be offered as rewards and gamers will get two pieces at a time using Haedrig’s Gift, with gamers getting access to items in the e-mail, with the class determining the kind of equipment the player can use.

Patch 2.4.0 also introduces a whole new area for gamers to explore

Greyhollow Island is the new environment that Blizzard is introducing to the action RPG, a cutoff environment that managed to become incredibly advanced and dedicated the energy of its citizens to an evil being before collapsing altogether.

Blizzard says that it wants to make the player feel alone and vulnerable, unsure about the challenges that the island might have in store and about the presence of other inhabitants.

Flora and fauna will be the main enemies on Greyhollow, and the company claims that there are new storytelling ideas incorporated that will allow players to understand more about the area and its history.

A full run-down of the tweaks that patch 2.4.0 is making to Diablo 3 are offered on the official site, and the company is continuing to introduce changes as it uses the PTR to see how the various new systems work.

Fans have long been speculating that Blizzard is also working on a more traditional second expansion for Diablo 3, but the studio has not offered any hint about it until now.

The fourth full Season for the game is currently set to end on December 30 all over the world, at 5 PM depending on local time.

Diablo 3 Season 5 is set to launch on Friday, January 15 at 5 PM, with a full rollover planned that will allow gamers to approach the new challenge with a new hero and the potential for new rewards.
