The process will end after about four hours

Video game developer Bungie is announcing that it plans to take Destiny down for a maintenance period starting on Thursday, August 6, at 8 AM Pacific Daylight Time, and the team believes that full functionality will be restored to the shooter around 12 PM PDT, which means that it will be unavailable for about 4 hours.

The official announcement says that gamers will be unable to log in during the period and that those who sign in before the maintenance begins will get a notice via the in-game messaging.

The studio adds, "Players may see the following Error Code(s) during this time: Loganberry. Additionally, Bungie.net account services may be restricted during this time."

Bungie is not saying why the maintenance period for Destiny is required and whether it plans to deploy an actual update for the game during the period or if it is simply working on the infrastructure.

Presumably, the company is only preparing the social shooter for the arrival of the new Taken King expansion, which is a little over one month away.

It seems that another update 2.0 for Destiny will only be offered a few days before the new content arrives, and until then no tweaks will be made.

The Taken King tweaks the core elements of the shooter

A new information dump from the development team explains that gamers, regardless of whether they own the expansion or not, will get a re-designed progression system that makes it easier to make their Guardians powerful.

The Taken King is also introducing a wide array of new weapons for gamers to use and expanding the subclasses offered for those looking for a new challenge.

The major six man raid that is being added will be centered on a new boss called Oryx, who is the father of Crota and is aiming to take revenge against all those who hurt him.

For The Taken King, Bungie is also introducing more strikes and an extra set of options for the Crucible.

The 2.0 update for Destiny will also introduce a major set of tweaks to the weaponry, including modifications to base stats and changes that will ensure that more exotic guns get used.
