Bungie wants gamers to get into better matches

The development team at Bungie working on Destiny is announcing that it is introducing an entirely new Marcy Rule for the Crucible Player versus Player experience, which is a way to improve the game experience for all those involved while also listening to the feedback coming from the community.

Andrew Weldon, a senior designer working on the social shooter, says that the company has gathered a lot of data from matches and most of them are both competitive and interesting for those engaged.

But for about 12 to 13 percent of Crucible battles, the end results are lopsided, and the company wants to make sure that those that result in unpleasant experiences for the gamers are stopped.

The new Mercy Rule for Destiny will identify them and stop them in progress, trying to make sure that all players get into battles they are actually enjoying.

Bungie states, "Shaxx will call out the end of the match. We immediately disable join in progress to prevent any additional players from joining the game (if anyone has dropped already) and reset the game clock to 10 seconds. After those 10 seconds, the match will end normally. All players will receive their end of match rewards and return to matchmaking."

The new rules will be added in the 2.0 update for Destiny, which will be introduced on September 8.

Mercy is not applied to Elimination and Trials of Osiris

The developers say that the two modes have mechanics that make them ill-suited for early termination and that it has no plans to tweak them significantly in the coming update.

The studio is also planning to continue to monitor game data in order to tweak the Mercy Rule in the future based on the way its initial deployment will be received.

A new No Mercy gold tier medal is also being added to Destiny.

The 2.0 update for the shooter will also introduce a massive tweak to the balance for weapons, and Bungie is planning to offer a full list of patch notes once the changes are actually deployed.

The Taken King expansion for Destiny will be offered one week later on all platforms, designed to introduce a new dreadnought area and a range of innovative activities.

The King's Fall raid, which will feature Oryx as the final boss, will arrive on Friday, September 18.
