The Taken King expansion for Destiny managed to move directly to the top of the United Kingdom video game chart during its launch week, showing how interested the player base of the Bungie-created shooter is in the new content that's designed to kick off the second year of the title's existence.

Those who pick up the package will be able to try and take down Oryx in the new King's Fall raid, will get access to more strikes, and can also use a variety of new weapons and equipment for their Guardians.

The major update 2.0 for Destiny has also tweaked some of the core mechanics of the shooter, improving players experience and the way characters evolve.

During a week that saw a number of big new launches, second place in the United Kingdom top ten is occupied by Forza Motorsport 6, the new racing title that is offered only on the Xbox One, with 450 vehicles and a range of new mechanics that include night and rain events.

For the week ending on September 19, the last position on the podium belongs to Pro Evolution Soccer 2015, the football sim created by Konami, which offers an interesting take on the sport with a focus on its organic nature.

The best of the rest

Former number one Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, another title from Konami, has not managed to keep its number one position but is still in a respectable fourth position, as more players pick up the final title created in the series by Hideo Kojima.

Mad Max has also lost two positions to reach fifth place coming from third, and Super Mario Maker for the Wii U, created by Nintendo, has seen an even bigger drop to move from second to sixth.

Despite the launch of new games, Grand Theft Auto V from Rockstar continues to perform well and sits in seventh.

Disney Infinity 3.0 is in eight place, offering gamers a chance to play with characters from Star Wars, and it is followed by Rugby League 3.
