The development team at Bungie and publisher Activision are in the final stretch before the launch of The Taken King expansion for Destiny and is offering the community a new cinematic trailer for the new content that puts the spotlight on the villain Oryx.

The footage is made up entirely of in-game cutscenes and suggests that outlines of the story that gamers will be able to experience starting on September 15 on the Xbox One, the PlayStation 4 and older home consoles.

Some fans will be disappointed that no new gameplay linked to Destiny is shown, but the new trailer is mostly designed to appeal to those who might have stayed away from the social shooter for a while or to entirely new players.

Bungie is focusing on Oryx because he is designed to be the most powerful boss that gamers will ever face in the title, even if they will have to wait until September 18 in order to play the new King's Fall raid.

The studio says the actual content is finished, but it wants to give the community three days to see the rest of the expansion before it switches the focus of the community on the raid.

Destiny is getting update 2.0 later in the day

The patch is set to arrive later in the day and will introduce a big range of big changes to the video game, which will affect the entire community.

All the weapons are getting a major balance pass as Bungie is seeking to make sure that gamers use a wider variety of them in different situations and that they match the power of the ones being introduced in The Taken King.

The progression for all Guardians will also be linked to experience, with light levels getting a smaller role in the shooter.

Destiny is also tweaking some of the events in order to offer a new range of rewards and make it easier for players to obtain new equipment for their characters.

Starting today the entire player base for Destiny will also be able to preview content associated with The Taken King in the Crucible, getting a taste of the kind of experiences they can play if they get the expansion.
