It's unclear for how long the title will be down

Video game developer Bungie is announcing that it is planning to introduce a full maintenance period for its Destiny title starting at 4 AM Pacific Daylight Time on Thursday, July 9, which means that gamers will be unable to sign into the social shooter.

The official Twitter message from the support account does not say how long the game will be down for, which might be a problem for the community, but presumably the studio plans to bring the title back up before a majority of players is ready to play.

As always Bungie is not willing to tell the community why the maintenance period is needed and what kind of changes might be made to the title.

It is also unclear whether they are planning to deliver a hotfix or if Destiny is getting some work down to the core infrastructure in order to prepare for the deployment of future content.

Previously Bungie has said that it plans to deliver some updates that might not actively tweak gameplay but get the title ready for the coming The Taken King expansion, which will make the entire experience feel entirely new.

Oryx is coming back, and his dreadnought will be explorable

The Taken King is designed to be deployed on all platforms on September 15 of this year, the biggest expansion yet for Destiny.

The focus of the narrative will be on Oryx, who is coming back to the solar system in order to take out the Guardians who have killed his son Crota, and on the big dreadnought that gamers will be able to explore at will.

The new Taken enemies will offer a tougher challenge and will be included in the strikes that were previously exclusive to those who played on PlayStation devices.

The expansion will also include more weapons and items that Guardians will use, as well as an increased level cap for all characters.

Bungie says that a new set of exclusive content for Sony devices will be introduced and that all gamers will be able to show the fact that they were loyal to Destiny from the moment it was launched with a new emblem.
