Players will be able to choose from two graphics modes

One of the most important reveals during Sony's The Future of Gaming event was the remake of the PlayStation classic Demon's Souls. The game that started a very successful genre – soulslike, is being remade for next-generation consoles, although we do hope that the remake will land on PlayStation 4 as well.

In any case, Sony confirmed last week that the Demon's Souls remake is handled by Japan Studios and Bluepoint Games. The game is still in development and doesn't have a release date yet, so we can only hope it will be out alongside PlayStation 5 later this year. Bluepoint Games is the same studio that made the Shadow of the Colossus remake two years ago, so it's safe to say that the franchise is in good hands.

We don't know much about the remake except that players will be able to choose from two graphics modes: one focused on fidelity, and one focused on frame rate. Furthermore, Sony confirmed the game will feature “beautiful shadow effects and ray tracing,” something that we can notice from the screenshots published recently.

There's also a brand-new Fractured Mode that we know of, although it's unclear how it functions yet. It makes sense for developers to want to add some quality-of-life improvements, not just graphics enhancements, especially if they're making the remake accessible to a larger audience.

Launched back in 2009, Demon's Souls was a sleeper hit that's praised by gamers and media alike as one of the most ruthless games of all time. Its unforgiving difficulty and gloomy atmosphere turn Demon's Souls into a very challenging experience for veterans of the soulslike genre.

The only reason Demon's Souls is not as popular as Dark Souls and Bloodborne is that it's not yet available on modern consoles, but since that's about to change, we don't doubt that it will gather an even larger flock of followers.
