14 DAY TRIAL // It's been a while since we last heard anything from the Deluge project, an open-source and cross-platform BitTorrent client that's available for GNU/Linux, Mac OS X, and Microsoft Windows operating systems.
Deluge is quite a popular piece of software for downloading torrent files over the Internet, and it comes with pretty much everything you would expect from a BitTorrent client. That included protocol encryption, Universal Plug and Play (UPnP), Distributed Hash Table (DHT), uTorrent Peer Exchange, wet-PMP, and, of course, the ability to manage the program remotely via a web browser.
The latest release, Deluge 1.3.13, is a major one, and the project's development team tells us that they've managed to add an extremely large set of bug fixes for the 1.3 series, which is currently the latest stable and most advanced one. Starting with Deluge 1.3.13, they've also added support for the libtorrent 1.0.9 library to the Mac OS X and Microsoft Windows ports.
Only Python 2.7 is now supported for Windows users
Another interesting change in the Deluge 1.3.13 release is the deprecation of Python 2.6 support for Microsoft Windows operating systems. This means that only Python 2.7 series is now supported, and users are urged to stop using Python 2.6. Otherwise, any third-party plugin you might have installed will disappear from the list of plugins.
"We now only will supply a Python 2.7 package (py2.7), Python 2.6 is unsupported so really needed to stop using it. So if you were using py2.6 when you upgrade your 3rd party plugins will disappear from the plugins list. You simply need to install the py2.7 versions, your plugin data is safe," reads the release announcement.
Also, to keep users safe while downloading torrents, Deluge 1.3.13 increases the RSA key size from 1024 to 2048 and employs the SHA256 digest.
