The team at publisher Deep Silver in charge of the creation of Dead Island 2 is announcing that it is no longer working with the development team at Yager, although there are no plans at the moment to abandon the entire video game.

The official Twitter of the company explains that "With Dead Island 2, Deep Silver has always been dedicated to delivering the sequel that Dead Island fans deserve. After careful consideration, today we announce the decision to part ways with development partner Yager. We will continue working towards bringing our vision of Dead Island 2 to life, and we will share further information at a later stage."

It's unclear what other studio the publisher can now recruit to finish the game or how much of a delay the change might introduce.

At the moment, Dead Island 2 is set to be offered on the PC, the Xbox One and the PlayStation 4 at some point in 2016.

The original vision for the title had gamers going to Los Angeles, San Francisco and an undisclosed location in California in order to battle the zombie epidemic.

Dead Island 2 was also supposed to offer a new combat system, with deadlier combos and more violence.

Yager also talked about a deeper story that would explore the causes of the outbreak and the organizations that seek to manipulate it.

More details about Dead Island 2 will arrive soon

Techland, the studio that created the first title in the series, chose to work instead on Dying Light, another undead-powered game that focuses more on parkour mechanics.

Yager is best known for the work that it has done on Spec Ops: The Line, the military shooter that dealt with some complex narrative elements while also delivering cool gameplay moments.

The company has not said whether it will focus all its resources on the Dreadnought project, which was announced in 2014, or if they have another intellectual property that they are planning to work on.

Deep Silver will probably offer more details about the new incarnation of Dead Island 2 once a new development team has been recruited and decisions about the core mechanics and story have been made.
