Star Wars Battlefront will, in fact, use dedicated servers for its multiplayer modes, according to developer DICE which finally sets the record clear on the online infrastructure in the upcoming sci-fi shooter. Even so, there won't be a server browser as the studio is going to use skill-based matchmaking.

Star Wars Battlefront got its full-fledged reveal earlier this year, even if it was confirmed to be in development for several years. Since then, Electronic Arts and DICE have shared all sorts of different details about the gameplay and the features, not to mention plenty of videos, screenshots, and other such things.

After organizing a closed alpha on the PC platform, the two companies are gearing up to show off an open beta across PC, PS4, and Xbox One in the following weeks. They've already revealed the different modes and mechanics included in the beta and now a bit more light is shed on the actual multiplayer infrastructure.

Dedicated servers are powering Battlefront's online systems

First up, in order to ease worries from fans and stop any other speculations, Star Wars Battlefront Lead Heroes Designer Jamie Keen confirms to PSLS that the shooter's online mode uses dedicated servers to ensure a leveled playing field for everyone taking part in it.

"We’ll still have dedicated servers. Absolutely. It’s one of the hallmarks of making sure we deliver an unparalleled online servers for the game," he explains.

However, as previously revealed, Battlefront isn't going to feature an actual server browser for the dedicated machines. Instead, it will employ a skill-based matchmaking system, so that fans are pitted against opponents of similar skill and don't fall prey to much more experienced players.

You can expect to see and hear more about Battlefront in the coming weeks, as we get closer to its global release date of November 17 across PC, PS4, and Xbox One. The aforementioned open beta, however, still doesn't have a start date.
