It looks like card games are trending since this COVID-19 pandemic started. The most recent one that we've learned about is called Trials of Fire and is made by Whatboy Games, a new studio founded by ex-Rocksteady developers.

Trials of Fire is a single-player, turn-based strategy game set in a post-apocalyptic fantasy world. As mentioned, the game is directed by the Lead Gameplay Programmer of Batman: Arkham Knight, Batman: Arkham City, and Batman: Arkham Asylum, and promises to plunge players into a huge and varied game world featuring a unique tactical, card-driven combat system.

The launch trailer released today shows a new kind of combat mechanics based on cards. The game features tactical, turn-based battles on hex-based maps, which combine party tactics, positional play, and, obviously, deckbuilding skills.

In Trials of Fire, you control your Hero in battles and try to optimize their capabilities by taking advantage of powerful card synergies and combining their individual skills and powers. The game allows players to build their party with any combination of nine unique character classes.

Apparently, the game will feature 200 unique items and over 320 upgradeable Skill Cards, which basically means that each run will be different. On top of that, the game will launch with six different game modes, but customizable quests will be available too so that players can tailor their play session how they want.

Trials of Fire has been confirmed to launch on PC on April 9. Apart from the standard version of the game, the digital collector's edition of Trials of Fire will be available on the same day featuring bonus content, including a digital map of Ashe, the complete original soundtrack, and a 100-page digital artbook.

Both editions of the game will be available via Steam, but fans of the genre can wishlist Trials of Fire before it launches next month.
