Univention's Maren Abatielos is pleased to inform us about the availability of the second point release of the Debian-based Univention Corporate Server (UCS) 4.2 operating system for servers and the cloud.

Coming about three months after the first point release, Univention Corporate Server 4.2-2 is here to bring all the latest security updates from the upstream Debian GNU/Linux 8 "Jessie" repositories, especially for core components like the Linux kernel, Samba, OpenLDAP, MySQL, and PostgreSQL.

Additionally, Univention Corporate Server 4.2-2 makes the portal to be more usable in cloud setups, improves the usability of the management system, addresses numerous bug fixes and issues, and adds support for app providers to create their own App Appliances through the App Provider Portal.

"App Appliances bundle an app with UCS into an immediately usable virtual machine. In addition, the integration depth of the apps can be significantly increased by so-called app settings. These can be created by the app provider simply via the provider portal without additional programming knowledge," said Nico Gulden in the release announcement.
