Softpedia was informed today, March 1, 2017, by the Q4OS team about the general availability of the third maintenance update to the Q4OS 1.8 "Orion" stable operating system series.

Q4OS 1.8.3 is now the most stable and advanced version of the Q4OS 1.8 "Orion" series, promising to add some more improvements to the in-house built Update Manager application, as well as all the latest security and software updates that have been released upstream in the software repositories of Debian GNU/Linux 8 "Stretch."

As usual, Q4OS 1.8.3 is here only for those who want to deploy the Debian-based operating system on new computers, as existing Q4OS 1.8.x users can have all these updates by simply installing all the available package versions that have been pushed lately into the official stable repos.

"New update of stable Q4OS 'Orion' desktop is available. A bunch of important packages updates and security patches has been delivered, as well as improvements of the native Q4OS update manager application," reads today's announcement. "All the changes are available for existing Q4OS users via the automatic update process."

Q4OS 2.3 "Scorpion" is coming in May based on Debian GNU/Linux 9 "Stretch"

In the meantime, it looks like the Q4OS team is working hard on polishing the next major release of the OS, namely Q4OS 2.3 "Scorpion," which will be based on the upcoming Debian GNU/Linux 9 "Stretch" operating system. The Q4OS "Scorpion" series should see the light of day sometimes at the end of April or May, after the release of Debian 9.

The Q4OS "Scorpion" operating system will be supported for at least five years from its official launch. Until then, we invite you to download the Q4OS 1.8.3 "Orion" Live or Installation ISO images for 32-bit and 64-bit platforms right now from our website if you want to use this open-source Debian-based OS built around the Trinity Desktop Environment.
