The Elive Team was proud to announce the release of yet another Beta milestone towards the major Elive 3.0 release of the Debian-based GNU/Linux distribution, versioned 2.8.8.

Elive 2.8.8 Beta is here with a lot of improvements and updated components, despite the fact that it comes only three weeks after the previous Beta (build 2.8.6), the most important one being a brand-new persistence feature that lets you save configs and other files on the USB medium during live sessions.

"We are playing with a special Persistence automated configuration that will let users save their sessions among reboots on their USB Live sticks, this mean, keeping your own selected installed packages, personal configurations, installed drivers, or even if you uninstall applications," explain the developers.

Here's what's new in Elive 2.8.8 Beta

Among the changes included in the Elive 2.8.8 Beta release, there is the ability to upload screenshots on Elive's dedicated servers and share them on social media, a default dark theme called Lucax, better geolocated automatic time configurations, as well as better installation of drivers for Nvidia and AMD Radeon GPUs.

Many small enhancements are also present for a better Elive experience. These include an increased default audio volume, improved Xterm default colors and configuration, updated language translations and default messages, along with various improvements to the Elive translator tool.

The Elive Menu received a new list of applications for all Elive-related tools, which also includes a submenu for extra features like installers, helpers, etc. The new Beta fixes a bug in the automated partitioning in the installer, and makes the /boot partitions more reliable when booting the operating system.

Many of the pre-installed apps received new versions, including LibreOffice, darktable, Git, and Wine, which should drastically improve the compatibility with various Windows apps and games. The CPU microcodes and printer configurations were also updated in the Elive 2.8.8 Beta release.

This release also fixes issues with the terminal colors and a bug that made the desktop to start with a wrong configuration of icons. The Elive 2.8.8 Beta Live ISO images are now available for download on our website if you want to take them for a test drive on your personal computer.
