Today, July 9, 2016, Laura Arjona Reina from the Debian Project has informed the Debian GNU/Linux community that the DebConf16 developer conference is now over, and the dates for the next year's DebConf17 event have been set.

According to Laura Arjona Reina, DebConf16, the annual Debian Developers and Contributors Conference for 2016, was a real success, with over 280 people attending from all over the globe. It's also worth mentioning that the whole thing totaled 113 hours of talks in 114 events.

If you weren't able to participate in the DebConf16 event, you might want to know that the Debian Project will make all the talks and sessions available as recorded video streams on the Debian meetings archive website.

DebConf17 to take place in Montréal

The decision to host DebConf17 in Montréal was taken earlier this year, on the last day of February, as announced by Debian developer Didier Raboud, but no official dates were set for the upcoming event at that moment in time.

When we reported the news, we told you that it might take place around the date of August 15, and today we're happy to inform you that DebConf17 will be held in Montréal, Canada, from 6 to 12 August 2017.

The dates are official, so you can mark them on your calendar in case you want to attend the event or you don't miss any of the action, as there will also be live streams of many of the sessions taking place there.

"For the days before DebConf the local organizers will again set up DebCamp, a session for some intense work on improving the distribution, and the Debian Day on 5 August 2017, aimed at the general public," said Laura Arjona Reina.

DebConf is an important event for Debian devs. It is their main event of the year, which gathers together new and existing Debian developers and collaborators who want to share their knowledge, or make contributions to the Debian GNU/Linux distribution.
