Once again, there's not a lot of action in the trailer

When it comes to game design, there aren't many people that can compare to Hideo Kojima. His passion for video games, cinema and literature allowed him to perfectly embed a myriad of philosophical themes into his games.

Since Kojima announced his studio has started working at Death Stranding, information about gameplay and premise was very scarce. The trailers that came in the last year or so made it even more confusing, but something happened yesterday.

At the Gamescom Opening Night Live hosted by Geoff Keighley, Hideo Kojima took the stage to reveal the most comprehensive gameplay trailer we've seen to date. We say comprehensive, but Kojima promised an even juicer trailer at Tokyo Game Show, which will kick off on September 12.

In the trailer, Norman Reedus' character Sam Porter Bridges pees via a urination mechanic, causing a huge mushroom to sprout, but we're also shown a weird mechanic related to the so-called bridge baby. At some point during the trailer, Sam falls off a cliff distressing the baby, which would increase the risk of being attacked by BTs (monsters). Now, to calm the child, you would have to gently rock the controller, but not too hard as that would further upset him. It would be interesting to see how this mechanic would be implemented on PC if the game will eventually drop the PlayStation exclusivity.

Along with the gameplay trailer, Kojima also presented two new characters, Mama and Bridge Baby, which will shed more light on the Death Stranding world. We finally learn why exactly newborns are the only ones who can detect the monsters in the game, but we're also shown a hologram of Geoff Keighley who apparently made it to the game as a cameo.

Kojima confirmed that there are a lot of other cameos in Death Stranding, but refrained from revealing other names. Even though Geoff Keighley is featured in the game, he's actually voiced by Matthew Mercer.

The cast of Death Stranding includes impressive names like Mads Mikkelsen, Norman Reedus, Guillermo Del Toro, Troy Baker, Lea Seydoux, Tommie Earl Jenkins, and Nicholas Winding Refn.

Death Stranding is set to be released on November 8 on PlayStation 4. It's yet unclear whether or not the game will make it to other platforms, but this was initially a PC & PS4 project, so we'd expect Death Stranding to arrive on PC at some point next year.
