A few days after Ghost of Tsushima Director's Cut was revealed, Sony announced Death Stranding is getting the same treatment. If you own Death Stranding on PlayStation 4, you'll be pleased to know that a PlayStation 5 version is set for release on September 24.

Death Stranding Director's Cut is more than just a remaster for the PlayStation 5, as the game is packed with a ton of new content and enhanced gameplay features. Kojima Productions added more weapons, equipment and vehicles, as well as a variety of new modes, missions, and areas to explore. Also, Director's Cut includes expanded storylines and enhancements to the UI. The developers announced they will add new online features including Friend Play and Leaderboards.

According to Jay Boor, Head of Publishing, Kojima Productions, the content introduced with Death Stranding Director's Cut was ll built and developed from the ground up, following the launch of the original game, including the Firing Range area, the additional missions, and the all-new Fragile Circuit racing mode.

Boor went on to say that all the new content has been carefully woven into the core game and made easy to find. However, there are some bits and pieces that will take some time to find and unlock. He also confirmed that all the Half-Life and Cyberpunk 2077 content introduced to the PC version of Death Stranding will be available in Death Stranding Director's Cut.

As far as cross-save goes, PlayStation 4 console save data will be transferable, so those who've already started Death Stranding on the previous generation console will be able to pick back up relatively in the same area as they left off.

Death Stranding Director's Cut includes some PlayStation 5-specific features, such as the ability to experience environment effects with the DualSense wireless controller's haptic feedback, bespoke adaptive trigger resistance, 3D Audio support (requires compatible headphones), ultra-fast SSD and near-instant load times, as well as two picture modes to choose from: Performance Mode (upscaled 4K and up to 60fps) or Fidelity Mode (native 4K), both with ultra-wide and HDR support.

Those who already own the PS4 version of Death Stranding will be able to get the PS5 Death Stranding Director's Cut Digital Deluxe Edition Upgrade for just $10/€10 (option available at launch).

Unfortunately, owners of a PS4 disc copy who buy the PS5 Digital Edition disc-free console will not be able to get the PS5 version of the game for the discounted price. However, if you own a regular PS5 console, you'll be required to insert the disc into the PS5 every time you want to download or play the PS5 digital version of the game).
