“Bones” is back on Fox for its 11th season, and if leading man David Boreanaz’s recent comment to E! News is anything to go by, either this will be the last season of the series or the show will continue but he will not return as Booth.

The first episode of the new season, which aired on October 1, dropped some major hints about Booth’s fate, namely about how he might be dead.

Boreanaz wouldn’t say if that’s the case, but he did say as much: he is pretty much done with “Bones” after 11 seasons. He promises that the new episodes will mark a return to form, in the sense that they will be more faithful to the spirit of the pilot.

And then he drops the bomb: this will be a great way for the series to wrap, because it would mean coming full circle. Even if the show doesn’t end, like he thinks it should, he won’t be back for a new season.

“For me, personally, I think it's time. I think that 11 seasons is great,” he says. “I mean, one season is great! I don't really count it as seasons but what we've given to the show and what we can do, for me it's great to see the show come to an end and do it the way we want to do it.”

Then again, Boreanaz said pretty much the same thing in 2012, when he teased fans on Twitter about his imminent exit. So maybe he’s just playing and / or trying to drum up more interest in the new season.
