With just a few weeks left until the release of Darksiders Genesis, developer Airship Syndicate revealed new information about the action-adventure game. A new gameplay trailer shows off the so-called “Creature Core”-system, which allows players to shift the balance between the different playstyles of WAR and STRIFE.

Players will be able to either increase their attack power or add a lava trail to their dashes. Also, you can either get the chance to spawn a hellhound whenever you attack or increase the amount of health and ammunition your enemies will drop.

Darksiders Genesis lets players customize their characters' abilities to match their personal playstyle with the newly introduced “Creature Core”-system, and while that seems neat on paper, we'll have to give it a whirl to learn more about it.

Unlike the previous games in the Darksiders series, Genesis features the debut of the fourth and final horsemen – STRIFE – who battles alongside his brother and fellow horsemen WAR in the first-ever Darksiders two-player co-op mode.

If you'd rather play solo, you will be able to alternate between STRIFE and WAR on the fly, taking advantage of STRIFE’s ranged and WAR’s melee style attacks. Naturally, both characters can build up a special attack meter that, when activated, temporarily turns them into a colossal creature that leaves epic destruction in its wake.

Although Darksiders Genesis is a spin-off, players will experience a brand new story campaign that takes place before the original Darksiders, exploring the origin of the Seven Seals. Also, this is a top-down action-adventure, but other than that, the game follows the same Darksiders formula: grow in strength and power, collect items and abilities, find weapon enhancements and creature cores.

Keep in mind that the PC and Google Stadia versions of Darksiders Genesis will release on December 5, 2019, while the console versions of the game will release on Valentine’s Day, February 14, 2020.
