It appears that Bandai Namco “caved in” and decided that Souls fans are worthy of getting a remasterization of the first title of the series. As unbelievable as it might seem, we're getting a remastered version of Dark Souls not just on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, but on the Nintendo Switch as well.

Dark Souls: Remastered is supposed to hit the shelves on May 25 for all platforms mentioned earlier. The bad news is there's no loyalty discount for those who own the original version of the game, so you'll have to pay the full $40/€40 price for Dark Souls: Remastered on either platform.

Just like the original game, the upcoming Remastered version is developed by From Software. Among the many improvements the new game includes over the previous version, Bandai Namco mentions upscaled 4K resolution with 60 fps (PC, PlayStation 4 Pro and Xbox One X), as well as 1080p resolution with 30 fps on Nintendo Switch with TV mode enabled.

Dark Souls: Remastered comes with a fully-developed multiplayer system where up to six player can join together to help, or hurt each other throughout their perilous adventures in the land of Lordran.

In the same piece of news, Bandai Namco announced a Dark Souls Trilogy bundle in Japan, which includes Dark Souls: Remastered, Dark Souls 2: Scholar of the First Sin, and Dark Souls 3: The Fire Fades Edition.

The bundle will come with each of the game's soundratck, knight and bonfire bookends, an encyclopedia, as well as a special art set. Unfortunately, it's yet unclear whether or not the Dark Souls Trilogy bundle will be launched outside Japan at some point.

In Softpedia's original Dark Souls review Andrei Dumitrescu rated it with an 8 out of 10, describing it as “an unfair and unbalanced role-playing experience.”
