Critically-acclaimed RPG The Ascent is getting a PlayStation release, developer Neon Giant announced this week. The PlayStation port will be handled by Finnish indie game studio Dreamloop Games, also known for porting Bloober Team’s Layers of Fear 2 to the Nintendo Switch, and the co-development of Funcom’s Moons of Madness.

After its release on PC, Xbox consoles and Xbox Game Pass, The Ascent is now expected to arrive on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 on March 24. Players who pre-order the game will receive a bonus in the form of an exclusive RPEG 33 Rocket Launcher with a unique blue laser targeting system. The item will be available at any weapon shop in the game after completing “Mutual Dependencies” (main mission 2).

It’s also important to mention that purchasing either of the two PlayStation versions of the game entitles players to download both the digital PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 versions of The Ascent, so there will be no extra fees for upgrading from one version to another.

The Ascent is absolutely iconic in the genre already - it’s been great to get the opportunity to work on such a deeply important title and alongside such talented folks. We had huge respect for the team over at Neon Giant before working with them - both for The Ascent and for their founders’ absurd body of work - and that respect has only grown over the time we’ve spent on the project,” said Steve Stewart, Dreamloop’s Associate Producer for the PlayStation 4 and 5 ports and Head of Communications.

The Ascent is a top-down shooter set in Veles, a cyberpunk world. The game offers both solo and cooperative experiences for up to four player who can play both in local and online co-op.

Apart from the shooting mechanics, The Ascent features strong RPG elements, as players can customize their character with cyberware that fits their playstyle. A skill tree that allows players to build their characters as they level up is also part of the game.
