Cult classic JRPG Ys Origin is getting a Switch release in less than a week. Developer and publisher Dotemu has just confirmed that the game will drop on Nintendo Switch on October 1. Pre-orders are already open and include a 20% discount from the game's regular $20 / €20 price.

Ys Origin is an action-RGP that made its debut on PC back in 2006. Six years later, Xseed Games published an English-language localization of the game, via Steam and later through other digital distribution stores.

There are multiple Ys games, so it's important to mention that Ys Origin is a prequel to the eight previous installments. It takes place 700 years before the events of Ys I: Ancient Ys Vanished and tells the backstory of Ys, Darm Tower, the Black Pearl, the twin goddesses, and the six priests.

Ys Origin has three playable characters: Yunica Tovah, Hugo Fact, and “The Claw.” Finishing the game with each character reveals more of the story. Naturally, each playable character has a distinctive story, combat style, and skillset.

Dotemu has already released console versions of the game, such as PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita versions in 2017, and an Xbox One version in 2018. On October 1, the game will make its debut on Nintendo Switch.

The cult classic has been modernized with polish, refined visuals, and additional content including a speedrun mode. Newcomers to the series might want to know that Ys Origin mixes light platforming elements and challenging puzzles. With multiple endings, distinct fighting styles between its playable characters, and secrets to discover, Ys Origin is a must-play title for all JRPG fans.

A new trailer showing the ax-wielding holy knight Yunica Tovah and the powerful sorcerer Hugo Fact fighting hordes of enemies has been released recently. If you're on the fence on whether or not Ys Origin is worth your time and money, make sure to check it out.
