In a surprising turn of events, Crytek announced that it will bring the original Crysis game to current-generation consoles and PC. The first-person shooter launched back in 2007 focuses on a group of military protagonists with nanosuits, who are facing heavily armed mercs and a race of technologically advanced aliens known as Ceph.

The first game in the series will receive the remaster treatment and will be released on PC, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and Nintendo Switch this summer. The game will exclusively focus on the original's single-player campaigns, developer Crytek confirmed.

As you can expect, Crysis Remastered will feature a bucketload of visual improvements, including high-quality textures and improved art assets, an HD texture pack, temporal anti-aliasing, SSDO, SVOGI, top-notch depth fields, new light settings, motion blur, and parallax occlusion mapping.

But that's not all, as Crytek revealed the remaster of Crysis 1 will include volumetric fog and shafts of light, software-based ray tracing, and screen space reflections, which are meant to provide the game with an even bigger visual upgrade.

We are excited to be working on the Crysis franchise again and to bring all the Crysis fans a remaster worthy of their passion for the game. It’s an exciting opportunity to be able to bring Crysis back to PCs and current consoles – even Nintendo Switch! – so that a whole new generation of players can experience the thrill of a battle in the Nanosuit,” said Crytek CEO Avni Yerli.

Here is a quick rundown of what players who didn't play the original game should expect. In Crysis 1, players step in the shoes of a soldier sent in what appears to be a simple rescue mission. You'll be armed with a powerful nanosuit that allows you to become invisible to stalk enemy patrols or boost strength to take on enemy vehicles.

Crytek did not disclose any details about price and availability, so we'll just have to wait for the German developer to reveal the information in the coming weeks.
