Gamers can choose how to play when starting a campaign

The team at the Paradox Development Studio working on Crusader Kings II is announcing that it is adding a number of new gameplay-related options to the game, which will pop up before the start of a campaign, allowing gamers to choose how they want to experience the grand strategy title without having to tweak files by themselves or appeal to mods.

The forum announcement explains that the move is inspired by the recent discussions about core game features like defensive pacts and shattered retreats and how they are supposed to work and about the advanced options integrated into titles like Civilization and the Second Wave for the first rebooted XCOM.

Now when the player launches a new campaign in Crusader Kings II, he will be able to turn a wide number of mechanics on or off and choose more options for a few others: Shattered Retreats, Defensive Pacts, Gender Equality - Default/Historical/All/Players, Sunset Invasion - 13th Century/Random/Off, Mongol Invasion - Historical/Random/Off, Raiding - Historical/Unrestricted/None, Epidemics - Dynamic/Historical/Deadly, Supernatural Events, Adventurers - Normal/Rare/None, Provincial Revolts - Normal/Rare/None, Regencies, De Jure Drift - Default/Restricted/Off, Dynamic Kingdoms and Empires, and Diplomatic Range.

The new system is can be modded, which means each team can choose its own set of game options to present the player with.

Crusader Kings II recently received the Conclave expansion

The team at Paradox has been adding a lot of new mechanics and content to the grand strategy title via its expansion packs, 11 of which have been launched until now, and the new option screens are a great way to give players some extra ways to customize the stories they create.

The same can be done using one of the many mods that have been developed for the title, and I am personally very eager to see how the A Game of Thrones mod integrates them, especially given the many new mechanics that it has added.

At the moment Paradox is getting ready for a full month, with the new Stellaris title set to arrive on May 9, moving the concepts that have powered its grand strategy experiences to a science fiction setting.

The game looks very interesting and will allow players to pick a race and then find their own way of thriving among the stars.

On June 6, D-Day, the company is also releasing the much-delayed Hearts of Iron IV, which will offer a new strategy-driven take on World War II.
