Looks can compensate the lack of extreme performance

With a military white digital camo, the new Ballistix Sport LT DDR4 memory from Crucial will arrive this August at Gamescom, promising the best overclocking module for gamers.

The new memory module from Crucial is set to come in kits ranging from 4GB to 64GB, and it isn't only extremely powerful but also plans to impress through sheer looks. Unlike the more traditional memory module manufacturers, who prefer black heat spreaders and PCBs, Crucial, a division of Micron, has designed the new DRAM memory for modders who prefer more exotic-looking components.

TechPowerUp thinks the new module will launch at Gamescom featuring 4GB or 8GB per module, allowing kits of up to 32GB of memory at first. Crucial promises that, after the grand event in September, it will grow the memory capacity of the kits to 64GB.

Like other DDR4 modules for overclocking enthusiasts, the new Ballistix Sport LT DDR4 will include XMP 2.0 profiles that will detect and overclock themselves automatically beyond JEDEC specifications to DDR4 speeds of 2400 MT/s on the installed platforms.

Looks is all it needs

Unfortunately, at 2400MHz clock rate, the new memory modules do not impress, and even when overclocked, they stand no chance in catching up with the latest high-performance modules from G.SKILL or Corsair. However when looks are concerned, the militarized aspect of the memory module may attract some PC innards aesthetic aficionados. Combine this with the latest Z170A mainboard from MSI, and you will be able to make the inside of your PC look much better all in white.

The reason why Crucial chose to launch the module kits at Gamescom is to associate them with the launch of Intel's Skylake-S series in the same timespan.

Pricing options for the new module aren’t likely to go too high, since it has limited overclocking availability, but it won't come cheap either. White acrylic computer parts aren't easy to manufacture, therefore, they are quite rare to come by. Still, those who want to impress could easily find money to enhance their rigs with such exotic looking components.
