CodeWeavers' Josh DuBois informs us today through an email announcement about the general availability of the CrossOver 16.1.0 commercial application for GNU/Linux and macOS operating systems.

CrossOver is a powerful graphical user interface for the popular, open-source Wine program that implements a Windows layer allowing Linux and Mac users to run applications and games designed only for the Microsoft Windows operating systems. It makes installing various popular apps a breeze.

CrossOver 16.1.0 has been released earlier and is now considered the most advanced version of the app. While the changelog is kept small with a bunch of improvements for the Microsoft Office 2013 and 2010 office suites, this is an important milestone that introduces support for the Quicken 2017 budgeting software.

"The big news in CrossOver 16.1 is that we now support Quicken 2017," said Josh DuBois. "We know many of our customers use Quicken and CrossOver to do their taxes this time of year. With CrossOver 16.1, you can use the latest version of Quicken."

Users can now install Microsoft Office 2013 in Spanish

As for the improvements implemented in CrossOver 16.1.0, we can mention that it's now possible to install Microsoft Office 2013 in Spanish, online activations of the Microsoft Office 2010 office suite should now work as expected, and the Preferences dialog was improved to properly display recorded usage statistics.

CrossOver 16.1.0 comes as a free update for existing customers. If you're using CrossOver 16.0.0 on your GNU/Linux distribution, you'll have to download the new version from the official website, and it looks like macOS users will be automatically upgraded to the new release next time they open the application.

If you've never used CrossOver, you can check out our review or the project's homepage for more details on what it can do for you in case you want to use certain Windows apps or games on your Linux and Mac computers. CrossOver 16.1.0 is currently based on the Wine 2.0 stable release.
