USB Type-C ports are taking over, Samsung is boarding ship

After the resounding success of Galaxy S7 and S7 edge, South Korean giant Samsung is now focusing all of its attention on the upcoming Galaxy Note 6. Aside from rumored specs, the Note 6 will also have a USB Type-C port, according to recent reports.

USB Type-C connectors are currently in the process of taking over the smartphones market, as more and more devices will be supporting this port in the near future. In some ways, it’s similar to the Lighting port on iPhones, as it provides higher charging speeds and additional advantages over the ever prevalent micro-USB.

It's reversible, making it easier to plug in and it's about three times smaller than the size of an old USB Type-A plug. It supports adapters that can output HDMI, VGA or other types of connections from a single USB port.

Other cool features of the USB Type-C connector are the higher charging power, as well as its bi-directional capabilities. This allows the phone to both receive and send power to other devices.

The question arises: will it come alongside Gear VR?

The advantages of USB Type-C ports are pretty obvious, so it's no wonder that many expected Galaxy S7 and S7 edge to feature this type of port. The lack of it was, in fact, one of the very few points of criticism for the S7 range.

Currently, Gear VR headsets come with microUSB ports, which means that Samsung might actually launch new VR sets to go with Galaxy Note 6.

Another reason why the smartphone giant might consider launching a second-generation Gear VR is Galaxy Note's 6 larger screen display of 5.8 inches, compared to the current model of 5.7 inches.

Nothing is set in stone yet, but we can expect the Galaxy Note 6 to come with water and dust resistance, just like the Galaxy S7 series. An iris scanner is also anticipated, as well as higher specs compared to its current Note 5 model.

It's safe to say that 2016 is shaping up to be a very strong year for Samsung, much to the dismay of other mobile manufacturers and, most of all, Apple.
