14 DAY TRIAL // Released back in 2017 to raving reviews, Little Nightmares, the puzzle-platformer horror adventure game by Tarsier Studios, is getting a sequel next year. Published by Bandai Namco, the game will release in 2020 for PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch.
Little Nightmares II introduces a new protagonist to the players – Mono but doesn't leave Six out of the picture either. Six will act an AI companion since the game doesn't feature a co-op mode. Apparently, the relationship between the two children is too important to miss out, especially when it comes to the story.
The sequel of Little Nightmares tells the story of Mono, a young boy trapped in a world distorted by the humming transmission of a distant Signal Tower. Alongside Six, the girl in a yellow raincoat, they set out to discover the grim secrets of the world whilst fleeing from the monstrous residents out to capture them.
But the addition of a new character also left room for new gameplay mechanics, as the two children must work together to traverse through the disturbing and suspense-filled world of Little Nightmares.
Developer Tarsier Studios mentions that Mono will now be able to wield a range of items picked up in the environment, at certain points in the game, which is something that you couldn't in the first game. However, stealth will remain the best option in many cases, so sneaking past frightening monsters is still the most reliable way to advance into the game.
Also, for the first time in the series, players will adventure outside of The Maw, the setting of the first Little Nightmares game, which offers developers to come up with new environments including a dark wilderness. Naturally, with new environments come new enemies, such as the sadistic Teacher shown in the trailer.
From what we're seeing in the trailer, Little Nightmares II does seem like a worthy successor to the original game, so we'll be keeping our eyes on this one.
