Research shows Siri leads the pack for incorrect responses

The battle for digital assistants is getting fiercer, with more large companies developing their own solutions that are eventually installed on software and hardware products aimed at consumers and enterprises worldwide.

A study conducted by Stone Temple reveals that Google Assistant is the most accurate assistant available right now, followed by Microsoft’s Cortana. The research analyzed Cortana’s performance on the Invoke speaker and Google Assistant on a smartphone and on Google Home.

Siri quite enjoyable

When it comes to incorrect responses, Alexa and Siri topped the charts, with Apple’s assistant even recording an increase from the previous year.

“Alexa had the most incorrect responses, but also scaled the number of questions responded to the most by far. Siri was right there with Alexa in the number of incorrect answers, but this only increased marginally over the 2017 results,” the report reads.

“Many of the “errors” for both Alexa and Siri came from poorly structured queries or obscure queries, such as “What movies does The Rushmore, New York appear in?” More than 1/3 of the queries generating incorrect responses in both Alexa and Siri came from such obscure queries.”

But while Siri fails to give the correct answers to your questions, it’s actually the most enjoyable to chat with. The research notes that Apple’s assistant is the funniest and responds with the biggest number of jokes.

For example, if you ask Siri what is the meaning of life, Apple’s assistant says “all evidence to date suggests it’s chocolate.” Cortana is pretty funny too, and when asked why fire trucks are red, it says “because red really brings out a Dalmatian’s spots.”

Overall, Google Assistant beats all its rivals, and the research notes that competition in this particular market is increasing, especially as companies invest more in this field. Alexa recorded the biggest improvement versus the previous year and is likely to continue this trend throughout 2018.
