It's no longer published by Microsoft and it's coming to PC

Control is the name of a new game from the famous Remedy Entertainment studio, the same people that were responsible for Alan Wake and Quantum Break.

For the last couple of games, Remedy partnered up with Microsoft, but it seems that’s not happening anymore. The studio recently revealed that it’s working on a new game called Control, and they are promising that it’s their most ambitious game yet.

While the most recent games from Remedy Entertainment are Alan Wake and Quantum Break, we have to remember that they are also the ones responsible for the first two Max Payne titles. We have to mention it because there are some influences from those games in Control.

Going supernatural, again

Control is the story of Jesse Faden, the new Director of a secret agency in New York that deals with the supernatural. It's a third-person sandbox-style game that combines supernatural powers with combat mechanics, but there isn’t much to go on, at least not from the short trailer that was presented at E3 2018.

“Control represents a new exciting chapter for us, it redefines what a Remedy game is. It shows off our unique ability to build compelling worlds while providing a new player-driven way to experience them,” said Mikael Kasurinen, game director of Control. “A key focus for Remedy has been to provide more agency through gameplay and allow our audience to experience the story of the world at their own pace”

What we do know is that it’s being built on the proprietary Northlight engine from Remedy and that it’s being published by 505 Games. Microsoft put a lot of pressure on remedy with both Alan Wake and Quantum Break and used those titles to promote Xbox consoles. This led to longer development times and countless delays.

We can only hope that Remedy is not going to follow the same trend with Control. They have already announced a 2019 release window, and it’s going to be available for PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4.
