If you too grew up with the “Evil Dead” movies, this news is bound to make you jump for joy. Writer / director Sam Raimi and leading man Bruce Campbell are bringing it back in series form, with the first episode scheduled to premiere on Starz on Halloween this year.

Bringing back older, classic movies either as TV series or as reimaginations for the younger generation might not always sound like a great idea, but if you see the trailer for “Ash Vs. Evil Dead” that premiered this weekend at San Diego Comic-Con 2015, you will see that this is one of those rare exceptions.

The fact that the team is back together has a lot to do with it, because it was the only way they could have recreated the magic of the originals, one that combined 1 part humor with 1 part gore and guts and 1 part actual horror.

Raimi co-wrote and directed the first episode, which sees Campbell return as Ash to settle a 30-year-old score. He might not be in the shape he was back then but he’s itching to get back in the game and slay some undead whichever way he can.

The series has Raimi, Rob Tapert and Bruce Campbell as executive producers, while Craig DiGregorio is showrunner and executive producer. And in case you missed it in the headline, Lucy Lawless also has a regular role.

What can be better than having Ash back to his undead-zombie-butt kicking than having Ash and Xena kick undead butt? Enjoy!
