14 DAY TRIAL // One of the most anticipated adventure games of 2022, Return to Monkey Island, finally has a release date and it’s closer than we expected. During yesterday’s Gamescom Opening Night Live event, publisher Devolver Digital and developer Terrible Toybox announced Return to Monkey Island will be released on PC (via Steam) and Nintendo Switch on September 19.
Along with the launch date, a new trailer has been released that reveals all the goodies that fans who pre-order the game will receive. Return to Monkey Island is now available for pre-order on Steam for €23 / $23, and those who pre-order will get the “highly exclusive and entirely useless Horse Armor” delivered to their inventories.
Yes, you read that right, if you pre-order the game, you’ll get a completely useless item sitting in your inventory for your entire playthrough. Although knowing Ron Gilbert and his crew, there might be some references to it in the game.
The conclusion to the Monkey Island series marks the return of the franchise’s creator Ron Gilbert, joined by co-writer Dave Grossman, art director Rex Crowle, and composers Peter McConnell, Michael Land, and Clint Bajakian.
Once again, players will step into the shoes of Guybrush Threepwood, the intrepid hero, leather jacket salesman, and mighty pirate, and embark on a swash-buckling adventure through the Caribbean, determined to uncover the elusive secret once and for all.
His old friends (and foes) will be there to help him, but while Guybrush and the evil LeChuck look certain to clash on the high seas once more, a new crew of Pirate Leaders seem to have arrived to spoil the party.
Return to Monkey Island promises to bring classic point and click gameplay to the modern-day. As pirates, players must solve puzzles and explore the islands taking advantage of classic adventure game controls. The new title will feature context-sensitive interactions, reactive dialog trees, as well as an easy-to-use inventory system.
